Measurement Specialties TSYS02D at Digi-Key

Measurement Specialties' TSYS02D at Digi-Key
Digi-Key Corporation

Measurement Specialties has recently released the TSYS02 family of compact digital temperature sensorsthat easily integrates into a variety of industrial control, HVAC/R, and heating/cooling systems. The series' outstanding performance-cost ratio makes these sensors ideal for automotive and medical applications, and the SMT-compatible package enables the sensors to be used in high volume applications for on-circuit temperature control. The TSYS02Dcan be interfaced to any microcontroller by an I²C interface and provides factory-calibrated data corresponding to the measured temperature. The temperature range is -40° C to +125° C, while the resolution is 0.01° C.

Lighter, More Efficient Motors

Lighter, More Efficient Motors

Researchers have built an electric motor with carbon nanotube yarn windings that promises to open the way for lightweight motors with much lower electrical losses. The scientists contend the development could also significantly reduce the CO₂ emissions produced by electrical machines and allow the motors to operate in higher temperatures.

Preparing for a Driverless Future

The "connected" car promises to deliver unprecedented sophistication and automation that will ultimately change the relationship between the car and its driver. The Economistdescribes the layers of connectivity involved, the new bundles of technologies and services that will enter the market, and the budding class of providers who may displace traditional automotive technology suppliers. It also speculates on the rise of an entirely new transportation infrastructure.

Food and Beverage Waste Becoming a New Resource

Food and Beverage Waste Becoming a New Resource

Thanks to new technology, many food and beverage manufacturers are treating solid waste and wastewater as a profitable opportunity rather than a costly obligation. For example, some companies are using filtration systems to recover food solids, such as proteins from chicken or potato processing, and are selling the fines as other products, including compost. Others are investing in membrane bioreactors — the same equipment used to treat wastewater in municipal plants — to harvest methane for use as fuel to fire boilers. Still others are turning "trash into cash" using efficient bailers and trash compactors to recycle plastic and cardboard.
