Botched Windows patch KB 3001652 re-issued and appears to be working

Much to its credit, Microsoft yanked the bad Visual Studio 2010 patch, KB 3001652, within hours of its release Tuesday. Reports of the patch's hangs and errors rapidly piled in from all over the Internet.On Wednesday we had another version of the patch appearing in Windows Update, and on Windows Server Update Services. Based on a very small sample, it looks like the new version installs just fine.

FBI probes for source of fraudulent TurboTax filing spike

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking into the cause of a spike in fraudulent tax returns filed using Intuit's TurboTax tax preparation software, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. An unnamed source said that the FBI had started an investigation to determine whether the fake returns were generated from information acquired through a data breach, perhaps from Intuit, or whether the returns were created using information obtained elsewhere.
