Lort Smith February e-newsletter

Seven year old Kelpie crosses; Windoo (brown) and Max (black) are gearing up for Valentines Day this weekend.  They came to Lort Smith after their owner passed away and are currently on a weight loss program, but will be up for adoption very soon!

Hello every one, well what a crazy, busy time we have had so far in our Adoption Centre.  In the past two weeks alone we have had so many animals adopted into loving caring homes;
  • 40 cats & kittens
  • 10 dogs & puppies
  • 5 rabbits
One of these lucky adoptees is Snowy; who had been with us since October.  He is pictured below with his awesome new family!

Share the Love this Valentines Day

This Friday morning from 7am to 10am,  Lort Smith will be out in force with around 40 volunteers and 20 dogs, collecting spare change at several CBD train stations, including Flinders Street, Parliament, Melbourne Central, Flag Staff, Richmond and North Melbourne.  So keep an eye out for us on your morning commute and stop by to say hello, get a kiss and cuddle from one of our Pet Therapy dogs and perhaps donate some of your spare change! We will also have our Smithy soft toy dogs and calendars available for only a $10 donation.

My, what big eyes you have!

On Sunday we had a visit from this beautiful Grey Tawny Frogmouth. Brought in by a concerned member of the public, he had been found on the ground, unable to fly.  Our vets examined him thoroughly, but no major damage could be determined. Two days and $300 later, he was transferred over to a qualified wildlife carer who will look after him and bring him back to Lort Smith for check ups until he can be released back into the wild.  Lort Smith is one of the only animal shelters in Victoria that cares for wildlife, spending roughly $100,000 each year.

Super needs a home

Hello folks, I’m Super.  I have been a bit unsettled of late and am looking for a stable home where I can live out my days in comfort.  I may look the tough sort, but I’m really a cuddly, fun-loving guy that enjoys the company of people.  I’m looking for somebody (or a family) who has plenty of time to not only take me on daily walks, but to also throw the ball with me in the backyard and chill out with me in the evenings...

Where are they now?

Remember Jimmy?  We asked our supporters to help us cover his ongoing medical costs and you all came through once again, raising $5,247!  Jimmy has now been adopted into a permanent foster home with one of our amazing volunteers and is settling in well. Zeus came into Lort Smith as a sprightly older chap with a strange yet charming underbite, just looking for a loving home to live out his retirement years.  And we are so pleased to say that he found his perfect home and family!  Zeus now has acres to run around and loves annoying his very patient Rottweiler friend.  Click hereto see Zeus in action!
