Frozen Nation 
An historic arctic blast continues to break temperature records, challenge drivers and chill much of the country. Kentucky was colder than Antarctica today as Chicago hit -8 and Atlanta faces a frigid 14 tomorrow as more record lows are expected. The weather is creating unusual phenomenon, including an ice volcano in New York and “ice quakes” in the South.

Superbug Outbreak 
Nearly 200 people who went to a UCLA hospital for an endoscopy test have been told they may have been exposed to a drug-resistant superbug that could already be to blame for two deaths. If it infects the bloodstream, the bacteria can kill as many as half the patients stricken. The CDC estimates that on any given day, about one in 25 patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection, and the elderly are most vulnerable.

A War of Words 
President Obama’s comments that “no religion” is responsible for terrorism has sparked a war of words. Last night, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani told a room of donors that “the president doesn’t love America” and the response on social media was immediate, with politicians from both sides of the aisle weighing in, as NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Las Vegas Road Rage Arrest 
A tense standoff in a quiet Las Vegas neighborhood ended with the arrest of an unidentified suspect in the shooting of 44-year-old Tammy Meyers. She was killed after a road-rage incident when she was followed home and her killer exchanged gunfire with her son. The suspect was arrested near her home as her husband shouted at reporters, “you made my wife look like an animal … There’s the animal!”

Walmart Raises Minimum Wage 
After years of protests and a stronger than expected holiday season, Walmart has announced it’s giving its low-wage workers a raise. The company will boost its minimum wage to $9 an hour this spring, impacting 500,000 people. That’s $2 above the national average.

Coffee for Good Health? 
You may breathe a sigh of relief when you hear the government’s latest nutritional guidelines. Three to five cups of coffee a day can stay on the menu and cholesterol is no longer “considered a nutrient of concern." While fried foods are still not recommended, certain kinds of meat are OK.
