The Font Runner

In the Dock

General web

First up, here’s an ECMAScript6 compatibility table [github/kangax] (thanks Tim!)
Harpy [github/artsabintsev] will notify users when a new version of your app is available.
Octodown [github/ianks] offers GitHub markdown previewing directly from your shell.
Speaking of markdown, ResumeCards [github/ellekasai] is a markdown-based resume generator.
Here’s a deployment checklist for securely deploying Docker [github/gdssecurity].
And here’s a head-to-head between PHP and Node [infoworld].
New programming language rankings show the growing popularity of Apple’s Swift [redmonk]. JavaScript took out the top spot, however.

The Font Runner

Design

Illustrio [designer.illustrio] is a site that lets designers create and sell illustrations for fun and profit.
Here are some inspirational examples of UI style guides [speckyboy], for your daily dose of “can-do”, or something.
These were the most popular fonts of 2014 [typewolf].
Pixlbrowser [pixlbrowser] is a fancy portfolio site for web people.
CSS-Buddy [github/jodyheavener] is a handy Sketch plugin for using CSS with layers.

Tag Along

SitePoint

On SitePoint today, we had one for the marketers — why tag management is worth paying for.
Then we took a look ahead at the year, at some important software trends coming up in 2015.
Then we had Sass superstar Hugo Giraudel explain some advanced map functions in the popular preprocessor.

The Graduating Glass of 2015

News/business

Google Glass has graduated from the Google X experimental division of the company [arstechnica], and will now be run in its own division. But it’s no longer for sale. So, just wait and see?
Meanwhile, Elon Musk is still going on about his “Hyperloop” experimental transportation thingy [arstechnica]. He’s now planning to build a test track in Texas. What a lazy, unproductive guy.

In the Loop

Off-topic

Later [laterapp] is apparently a really fast way to schedule a reminder to yourself.
Raindrop [raindrop] is like Pocket, but better? It can handle all types of media, at least.
Goofy [goofyapp] is a desktop client for Facebook Messenger, which means you can go ahead and close that Facebook browser tab for a few minutes until you feel panicked enough to want to check out the feed again.
If you’re a scientist, you need to get on the hottest new social network: Loop [motherboard.vice].
Finally, also from Motherboard, this is a novel made out of animated gifs [motherboard.vice].

Those are our links for today, and for the week, thanks for joining us! We'll be spending the weekend impersonating scientists on Loop and trying to get our super-mega-ultraloop (patent pending) idea off the ground. See you next week!
