Judge rejects Roman Polanski's bid to dismiss sex case from 1970s

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has rejected a new bid by Roman Polanski to dismiss a three-decade-old case that led the famed director to flee to Europe to avoid sentencing in the sexual assault of a teenager, a court spokeswoman confirmed today. The Oscar winner fled the country in 1978, just months after he had agreed to a plea deal to end the case in which he was accused of raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl. Last week, Polanski’s legal team made accusations of prosecutorial misconduct in its effort to end the case, which has kept the director out of the United States as well as many countries that have extradition treaties with the U.S.
