T-Mobile US chief brands AWS-3 auction “disaster”; hails 2014 “best year of growth”
John Legere, the unconventional CEO of T-Mobile US, described the blockbuster AWS-3 spectrum auction as a disaster for consumers – arguing it was further evidence of unfair dominance exerted by AT&T and Verizon Wireless – although he was in cheerier mood about the company’s Q4 results, which saw margins improve along with top-line growth.

Verizon Wireless CEO Mead to retire
Dan Mead is being replaced as CEO of Verizon Wireless, the largest US operator, by John Stratton, currently its EVP and president of its global enterprise and consumer fixed line businesses.

Ofcom proposes 10% fee cut for UK operatorsOfcom, the UK telecoms regulator, opened up a consultation period about whether or not annual licence fees for 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum should take into account the coverage agreement operators signed with the UK government, although its latest proposal already lays out a ten per cent cut for operators. 

SpiderCloud wins in Pakistan
Enterprise small cell startup SpiderCloud Wireless announced a win at recovering Pakistan operator Warid Telecom, its first commercial deployment in Asia. 
Samsung acquires Apple Pay rival LoopPaySamsung has bought LoopPay, a US firm behind a technology that enables shops and restaurants to leverage their existing point-of-sale terminals to receive payments from consumers’ mobile devices.
