This might be why you can’t find a Nexus 6 in the Google Play Store right now
Google opened Nexus 6 preorders on Wednesday in the U.S., but the company soon sold out the available 32GB versions of the first Nexus phablet, and the 64GB version was still listed as “coming soon.” This isn’t the first time Google’s new Nexus handsets sold out soon after being made available in the Google Play Store, but Google might have a special reason for only taking a limited number of preorders in its online store, at least according to MobileSyrup.

Anonymous Apple employees reveal what it’s like to work for Tim Cook
Despite the fact that all of its products now leak long before they are formally announced, Apple remains one of the most secretive technology companies in the world. Of course, it makes sense that the most valuable company in the United States would want to protect its secret sauce, so one can’t exactly blame Apple for closing itself off to the public, for the most part. Then again, when a company is as secretive as Apple, it makes the private bits and pieces that do manage to trickle out far more tantalizing — and some juicy bits and pieces were shared recently when several anonymous Apple employees shared some details surrounding what it’s like to work for Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Video: This is why Tim Cook finally decided to come out as gay
Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped an unexpected surprise on Thursday morning when he decided to finally come out as gay. Even though Cook’s sexuality has long been a topic of speculation, the Apple boss put all doubts to rest in a heartfelt essay in Bloomberg Businessweek where he talked about his experiences as a gay man and how they’ve shaped what he sees as his role as CEO of Apple.

Samsung’s nightmare scenario is unfolding right before our eyes
Halloween has come a day early for Samsung as it released a truly scary earnings report that saw its operating profit tumble by 60% and its revenue fall by 20%. These top-line numbers don’t tell the full story of what’s really happening with Samsung, however — in reality, the company’s nightmare scenario is coming true at a truly stunning speed.

This is the most important and inspirational personal announcement Tim Cook has ever made
Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday made a surprising announcement in an opinion piece on Bloomberg Businessweek, which is very much in line with his many public notes in the recent past about diversity at the workplace. “While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven’t publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me,” Cook said in the essay.

Samsung’s Q3 profit nosedives, stock soars
Investors sent Samsung shares soaring more than 4.5% on Thursday as the company reported dismal third-quarter earnings… that were thankfully less dismal than analysts were expecting. In a world where the high end of the smartphone market is being squeezed by more capable mid-range and low-end phones, Samsung’s response has been to flood the market with cheaper low-margin phones. How did that work out? In the third quarter, Samsung’s operating profit plunged 60% on year to $3.9 billion and its revenue slid 20% to about $44.6 billion.

Microsoft smartwatch is official… but it’s more of an affordable fitness band
Just as previously rumored, Microsoft is also interested in the wearable space, and the company just launched a smart device for your wrist that’s supposed to offer health-related features at an affordable price. The Microsoft Band is not a smartwatch, but rather a fitness… well, band, that’s supposed to let users track workout data.

Sick of constant media bashing, Verizon funds a tech news site where the NSA and net neutrality don’t exist
It’s hard being Verizon sometimes. The poor little wireless carrier and Internet service provider often gets a bum rap in the tech press for its controversial actions on net neutrality and on enabling the American government’s surveillance programs. To combat these nattering negative ninnies in the media, Verizon has decided to take action and bankroll its own news site where none of those nasty sorts of stories will ever pop up.

Walgreens will happily take the Apple Pay customers that CVS and Rite Aid don’t want
Although CVS and Rite Aid both shut off the NFC payment receptors over the weekend, you can still use services such as Apple Pay at Walgreens, which just happens to be one of those two pharmacies’ main competitors. And don’t think that Walgreens doesn’t know this — its official Twitter account on Tuesday sent out a message letting everyone know that all iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users can “use Apple Pay today at any one of our stores.” The company also helpfully posted a link showing you how to find all the Walgreens stores located nearest you, although that link also happened to be for Apple Maps, so you may want to double check with another service before making your drive.
