Colonizing the Moon: The Costs and Complications (infographic)

by Jolene Creighton
Mars One recently announced that they have narrowed down the candidates for the potential colonization of Mars to just 100 individuals. Ultimately, the company plans on launching 4 individuals into space in the next few decades and staging a reality television show on the Red Planet. Some people are (perhaps understandably) skeptical of the feasibility of this enterprise. After all, we haven't even set up a base on the moon yet. In fact, we haven't even been to the moon is decades. As such, some argue that a colony on the moon is a lot more realistic; others argue that even a moon colony is out of our reach.
What do you think? Can we make it to the moon? What about Mars?
