Babel On

General web

Babel [github/babel], formerly 6to5 and highlighted previously in Versioning, is still a great transpiler for writing next gen JavaScript.
git-stats [github/ionicabizau] is like GitHub’s contributions calendar, but local, for your commits.
PleaseWait [github/pathgather] is a library to show users a pretty splash animation while your pages load.
ReactShadow [github/wildhoney] is a library for React that allows you to insert your styles where they belong, in your CSS docs.
This is a really great examination of variables and scoping in ECMAScript 6 [2ality].

Here’s Jony

Design

For some reason the New Yorker dedicated 13,000 words to a deep and interesting examination of this obscure designer named Jony Ive [newyorker]. Seems like a real up-and-comer.
Also, Bootstrap Zero [bootstrapzero] is a huge collection of free, open-source Bootstrap themes and templates.

In the Middle, Man

SitePoint

Then we have the first part of a guide to creating an image gallery using the Flickr API. The second and final part of the guide will be out later this week.

Traffic Jam

News/business

A few posts about disappointing web traffic today: Marco Arment thinks the traffic from Google is falling off in favor of social [marco], while The Atlantic editor Derek Thompson says Twitter’s own numbers suggest the service doesn’t help with traffic much at all [theatlantic]. Let’s just give up, shall we?
StoriesOnBoard [storiesonboard] looks to be a great tool for product development.

SampleStitch [samplestitch] lets you play around with famous samples used by Kanye, Jay Z and J Dilla, and try and recreate famous hooks with your keyboard.
Finally, here are 12 tips for typing faster on your iPhone or iPad [howtogeek]. Not terribly exciting, but handy. Sent from my iPhone

That's it for today's Versioning. Expect tomorrow's edition a little earlier since we'll be typing it up on our iPhones (not really, that's a terrible idea). Until then!
