But for Android fans, these last few days until the phone finally starts shipping are going to feel like an eternity. The Motorola-built Nexus 6 is shaping up to be the sleekest and most powerful phablet the world has ever seen, and it continues the incredible roll Motorola is on right now. As we noted in our Droid Turbo review, Motorola has absolutely become the king of Android in the second half of 2014. Of course, while you wait for the new Nexus 6 to finally hit store shelves, there is some good coverage out there to tide you over.

You can use Microsoft Office for free on your iPhone or iPad starting right now
Microsoft under Satya Nadella truly is a new company. Microsoft on Thursday announced that you’ll now be able to use its Microsoft Office mobile apps on your iPhone or iPad even if you don’t have a subscription to Office 365 — in other words, Office for iOS just became a free mobile app. And don’t think that Microsoft has left Android users out in the cold either, as the company says that Office for Android tablets will be free to use without an Office 365 subscription in the near future as well.

Ex-NSA lawyer: Apple and Google may end up like BlackBerry if they make their phones more secure
We’ve heard government officials make a lot of questionable claims to try to get Apple and Google to not encrypt data on their smartphone platforms. However, this might be the most ridiculous and shameless scare tactic we’ve seen anyone use yet. The Guardian brings us word that former NSA general counsel Stewart Baker is now claiming that Apple and Google shouldn’t encrypt their smartphones’ data because they’ll end up like BlackBerry.

This is the most advanced iPhone malware yet, and it should terrify you
Apple used its iOS anti-malware security many times to bash Android’s malware problem — which is an issue that affects plenty of Android users — but it looks like the company might have a serious iOS and OS X security issue on its hands, The New York Times reports. While malware attacks have been possible against jailbroken iOS devices for some time, a new piece of malware has been discovered that can infect even iPhones that have not been jailbroken.

This is Apple’s gorgeous new Mac App Store
Apple released OS X 10.10 Yosemite last month and the new desktop operating system was packed full of great new features. Spotlight has been totally remade, Continuity features add terrific integration with iOS devices, and plenty more functionality was added. But beyond features, Yosemite also introduced a completely redesigned interface that is flatter and far more modern than Apple’s earlier desktop software. Menus got a new look, apps got a new look and even icons were completely redesigned, but Apple’s Mac App Store remained unchanged… until now.

EFF: iMessage and FaceTime are best, most secure, mass-market messaging options
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on Tuesday released a report on messaging apps security, saying that Apple’s iMessage and FaceTime SMS/instant message and video chat services, respectively, are the most secure mass-market options for consumers, though that doesn’t mean everything is perfect.

This Sony Action Cam video of an eagle soaring over Paris is the most incredible thing you’ll see all day
GoPro this year has gotten a lot of attention for some of the incredible videos that users have been filming with its cameras, including videos that show us up-close footage of volcanoes and of men leaping off four-story buildings. Other action camera makers have seen GoPro’s branding success and are now unleashing some incredible videos using their own cameras, including one Sony just produced with a Sony Action Cam that gives us an amazing first-person perspective of what it’s like to be an eagle soaring over Paris.

OnePlus wants to sell one million smartphones by the end of 2014
OnePlus has had its ups and downs throughout 2014, but as we reach the end of the year, the company still has high hopes for the intriguing OnePlus One. The Android smartphone was initially available only to consumers who managed to secure an invite, but OnePlus opened sales to the public for a limited time during a special preorder promotion last week. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a mess, but it helped propel the One to over 500,000 sales.
