Simplify Cooking With This Kitchen Tool

Now that you're cooking your own delicious meals, you'll want the right tools. One of the most important investments you can make for your kitchen is a high-quality skillet. You'll use it to prepare everything from scrambled eggs to pan-seared seafood, and a good one can make the difference when it comes to texture and flavor. Here are some things you should look for:
Weight: A skillet should be heavy for its size and solidly constructed, especially at the bottom, where it touches your stove.
Size: You want a pan that's big enough to fit all your food, but liquids will evaporate quickly in a large pan. If you're worried about burning, choose a smaller size.
Handle: A longer handle will give you more control, while an ovenproof one can double your culinary options. This is especially great for frittatas, which have to be cooked on the stove as well as in the oven.
Coating: A nonstick coating is amazingly convenient when it's time to flip an omelet, but it won't work as well if you're trying to thicken a sauce.

Connie's Tip of the Day

Protecting Your Pans

Metal spoons, whisks, and other utensils can scratch and eventually ruin nonstick surfaces. To keep your pans in tip-top shape, always choose wood, rubber, or plastic.
