National Renewable Energy Laboratory Hosts Event with Colorado School of Mines

Wednesday, March 18, 2015
Colorado School of Mines
Golden, Colorado

The Colorado Collaboration for Subsurface Research in Geothermal Energy (Colorado SURGE) is hosting a free workshop on geothermal direct use applications on Wednesday, March 18th at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden, Colorado. No remote access is available at this time, so hurry! Space is limited.
The objective of the workshop is to exchange information via panel discussions by subject matter experts on topics such as:
  • Geothermal Direct Use Potential
  • History of Geothermal Direct Use in the United States
  • Geothermal Direct Use (Net Zero Energy Campuses, Commercial Buildings)
  • Geothermal Direct Use Technical Barriers and New Technology (Deep Direct Use)
Deep Direct Use (DDU) is an emerging technology area in the geothermal sector that utilizes lower temperature geothermal resources that are shallower than most conventional hydrothermal resources yet deeper than geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) and other conventional direct use systems. DDU is deployable in a similar temperature range (40°C-150°C) as traditional direct use, but can be built out on a much larger scale. This new sector has the potential to optimize geofluids for a range of purposes, cascading from electricity production and direct heat to a wide range of end uses.

A comparable workshop is slated for the Eastern United States in June. Watch our website for updates.
