The look of Google’s new Material Design is regularly praised by users and tech bloggers alike. In fact, we can’t remember the last time a user interface has received such universal acclaim right off the bat. Android 5.0 Lollipop and the new graphic elements it ushers in are fantastic though, and Google has already confirmed that it plans to use Material Design across its mobile and desktop properties as it continues to unify its user experiences. But, what might Google’s core end-user product, the search engine at Google.com, look like with Material Design? In a word, amazing.

Google’s first big Android Lollipop update – here’s what it will fix
Google will soon roll out an Android 5.0.1 update for Nexus and other devices that are already running the first Lollipop version, fixing various bugs in the process. As Ars Technica and Android Police report, Google has already pushed Android 5.0.1 to AOSP, also releasing factory images for the Wi-Fi Nexus 9, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10 tablets.

Following the launch of the original iPhone in 2007 and Android in 2008, Microsoft found itself painfully behind the times with its mobile operating system, then called Windows Mobile. So the company went back to the drawing board and built a brand new platform from scratch, ditching its boring old interface in favor of a beautiful modern user interface that focused on zero-touch, real-time information courtesy of live tiles. Windows Phone was and is beautiful, unique and as smooth as a mobile operating system can be. And with each passing day, it looks more like a failure.

KitKat continues to chip away at Jelly Bean as Android distribution shifts yet again
