101, southbound 110 freeways reopen; northbound 110 remains closed

Authorities at 4:30 a.m. today reopened the 101 Freeway and the southbound 110 Freeway after a massive fire in downtown Los Angeles engulfed a nearby apartment tower that was under construction. The northbound 110 Freeway remains closed, Caltrans said. More than 250 firefighters were battling the blaze at the tower in the 900 block of Fremont Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman David Ortiz said. Officials said the cause was not yet known.
