Portion Control: Try This Easy Trick

You're committed to The New Sonoma Diet, but what if you don't have a 7-inch or 9-inch plate in the house? If you don't want to buy a whole set of plates that are the right size, you can always go to a secondhand shop, buy just enough unmatched, interesting plates for your family, and use them for the duration of the diet.
And remember, there's no rule against taking a bigger plate and using only 9 (or 7) inches of it. If you have paper plates around, there's a good chance they're 9 inches in diameter (the size will appear somewhere on the package). If they're the right size, you can either use the paper plates for the diet or put one over a bigger plate to see where the 9-inch circle is. Then use that portion of the bigger plate.

Connie's Tip of the Day

Marking the Line

To achieve the right portion in your breakfast bowl, you'll need a two-cup bowl. If you don't have one, take a larger bowl and determine where the two-cup line is. Once you find it, mark it off with a piece of tape so you don't have to remeasure each time.
