News from The Hill Economy adds 295K jobs as rate hits 5.5 percent By Vicki Needham Employers added a better-than-expected 295,000 jobs in February as the unemployment rate edged down to 5.5 percent, the lowest level in nearly seven years, according to numbers out Friday. Unemployment hit a high of 10 percent in October 2009, and the current level is the lowest since May 2008. Read more here.
