In his national security address, Tony Abbott announced plans to appoint a counter-terrorism co-ordinator, said he'd revoke citizenship as part of the fight against extremism, and urged Muslim leaders to proclaim Islam as a religion of peace ‘more often, and mean it’.
 
Muslim leaders have responded with fury at the suggestion that the community did not do enough to counter extremism, saying the statement was the “last card” of an embattled leader.A report said creating a 'homeland security' style department to coordinate agencies would free up the attorney general to focus on citizen’s rights in counter-terrorism law reform.
