A firestorm is erupting over the use of lethal force by police after a homeless man in Los Angeles was fatally shot at least five times by the LAPD. The shooting was graphically captured on video and went viral. Today, police said the man, known as "Africa," reached for an officer's weapon and revealed what was captured on body cams. Witnesses offered their own take.

Surge in Police Body Cams
Police body cams are now worn in more than 5,000 departments nationwide, including the LAPD, NYPD and forces in Seattle and DC. The cameras, often attached to an officer's uniform or glasses, have been used to both discipline and exonerate cops. Police insist the cameras capture what a bystander might not see.
