Five releases in 25 years is not a fast pace of evolution by today’s software standards, especially when you consider that the predecessor standard, HTML4 (HTML 4.01), was released in 1999.... READ MORE »

Five questions with new Dynatrace CEO John Van Siclen on APM and company’s future

By Rob Marvin
Application performance management solution provider Dynatrace is a private entity once more, becoming an independent business and naming John Van Siclen as its new CEO.
After the initial dynaTrace company, which also had Van Siclen as its CEO, was acquired by Compuware in 2011, the company assumed the role of the APM business in the larger IT software company (with Van Siclen acting as a Compuware APM general manager). The Value of Testing Metrics Within Software DevelopmentZephyr
Developers today face increasing pressure to deliver software on time and under shrinking budgets. This, of course, strains testers, who now must take every opportunity to manage the quality of their product or risk releasing flawed software. Project teams need to keep a high level of accountability and oversight during development, but cannot do that without the ability to accurately monitor testing measures.
Testing metrics can be put into three distinct boxes: project, departmental, and companywide. Understanding which high-quality metrics are available to testers and how they can support QA processes is essential to ensuring that developers and testers are effectively managing a company's standards of quality.

Big Security, Big Cloud and the Big Goodbye

Alan ZeichickSoftware-defined networks and Network Functions Virtualization will redefine enterprise computing and change the dynamics of the cloud. One of the biggest challenges in product development is ensuring that what you actually deliver matches your most current requirements. Whether developing simple manufactured items, software products or systems, or more complex products with hardware, firmware, and software components, ensuring that your final (and potentially evolving) design matches the finished product requires a well-defined process. When software development is linked to hardware & firmware development, it is especially challenging because of the wide range of requirements and multiple dependencies that are present for relatively simple applications. It is for this reason that a well-designed Requirements Traceability process is critical to delivering a quality product.
This white paper lays out five steps to take to ensure your project matches up with requirements from inception, through the development life cycle, through to deployment.
