Post-Dock

General web

interact.js [github] is a JavaScript library offering drag and drop, resizing and multi-touch gestures, complete with inertia and snapping.
Data-viz library time: Mozilla has built MetricsGraphics.js [github], a visualization library on top of D3 allowing for beautiful timeseries visualizations. FnordMetric [github] is a C++ tool that does the same thing with SQL data.
The team at Netflix released Dynomite [techblog.netflix], a new tool to convert non-distributed data stories into fully distributed datastores.
And here’s a post looking ahead to a world beyond Docker [medium].

A Fine Line

Design

Pixelapse [pixelapse] is a version control and collaboration tool for designers.
Here’s a collection of resources on website styleguides [styleguides], including articles, podcasts and even books.
Explained Visually [setosa] is a site explaining hard ideas — Markov Chains, conditional probability — through visualizations. Looks good!
Lining.js [github] is a JavaScript library offering line-by-line control over style, meaning you can really get stuck in to awesome typography.
And this is just a cool WebGL-based interactive fluid animation thingy [haxiomic.github].

SitePoint

On SitePoint today, we had a great article looking into automating performance testing with Grunt.js. Automate all the things!
Then we have a great piece arguing UX teams need a writer.
And here’s a look at OctoberCMS, a Laravel-based CMS.

Money to Burn

News/business

Snapchat has announced a partnership with Square, meaning the ephemeral messaging service will be allowing its users to send (hopefully) not-so-ephemeral money [arstechnica].
Here’s an interesting look at how Facebook may (eventually) fail [theatlantic].
A journalist speaks about her hacker source embedded in Anonymous, who turned out to be a FBI snitch [medium].

Do the Worm

Off-topic

This is an old one, but it only came to our attention today: What happens when video game pirates pirate a video game development simulator and then go bankrupt because of virtual piracy in the game? Irony and a lack of self-awareness ensue [greenheartgames].
So some people took the neural network from a worm and implanted it into a Lego robot [i-programmer]. If you haven’t clicked on that link yet then you’re dead inside.
Finally, here’s a collection of stupid projects from a stupid hackathon [lav.io].
