FROM 'DICK POOP' TO DIVERSITY, OSCARS DOMINATED THE DAY Before we get to the nominees, let's talk about the best moment of anything ever. This morning, "Dick Poop" was nominated for an Oscar. That's what the Academy president accidentally called Oscar-nominated cinematographer Dick Pope. Pope said he's been called worse. At least now we can stop talking about John Travolta and "Adele Dazeem". Here's what else you need to know about the noms: Birdman and Grand Budapest Hotel lead the Oscar pack with nine nods each.Boyhood is still a darling of the award show season. The nominations for best picture are: Boyhood, Birdman, Selma, Whiplash, American Sniper, The Grand Budapest Hotel,The Imitation Game andThe Theory of Everything. Obvious omissions: Foxcatcher, Gone Girl and Angelina Jolie's Unbroken. There was a huge outcry that no people of color were nominated in the acting categories and there were major snubs of the MLK biopic Selma (it didn't pick up nods for best actor or best director). See the rest of the nominees here. See the rest of the snubs here. Neil Patrick Harris will host the 87th Academy Awards on Feb. 22.

CANADA DIDN'T EMBRACE THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS TARGET In the U.S., Target is a go-to. For our northern neighbor, not so much. The retail giantis pulling out of Canada after two disastrous years, abandoning its 133 stores. What went wrong? The company lacked the distribution network it needed to supply stores, leaving shelves inconsistently stocked and disappointing shoppers. Canadian shoppers who had hit up Target's U.S. stores were confused by the differences in pricing between the two countries. And Target had major trouble competing with stores already in Canada that Canadians loved. A poor holiday season was the nail in the coffin. The operation has lost more than $2 billion since the expansion was announced in 2011.

FATHER OF MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY PLOTTED TO BOMB THE U.S. CAPITOL BELIEVES HIS SON WAS SET UP  Authorities say Christopher Lee Cornell, 20, planned to set off pipe bombs outside the Capitol, then shoot lawmakers and staff as they fled. His father said he was a "mama's boy who never left the house," and that his son, who had converted to Islam, was vulnerable and likely coerced. Cornell was arrested outside a Cincinnati gun store yesterday after buying two automatic weapons and 600 rounds of ammunition. Federal authorities said no one was ever in any danger because investigators were closely monitoring.

DONORS AREN'T YET SOLD ON ROMNEY, TAKE 3 Mitt Romney hasn't given up on a shot at the presidency, but he is facing an uphill battle with donors. Romney can't count on his most prolific K Street fundraisers who supported his 2012 campaign. They either remain on the sidelines or already have committed to Jeb Bush. On Friday, the former Massachusetts governor is going to speak to the GOP faithful gathered in San Diego for the winter meeting of the Republican National Committee. It will be his first public speech since the surprise news that he was seriously weighing a 2016 presidential bid.

FIND OUT HOW YOUR STATE RANKS ON DRUNK DRIVING Mothers Against Drunk Driving released a report today rating all 50 states and the District of Columbia on the work they're doing to stop drunk driving fatalities. The report is the latest release from the group's Campaign To Eliminate Drunk Driving, a project that began in 2006 and involves working with legislators and law enforcement to create stronger laws. MADD created a five-star system for the report that looks at five different areas of countermeasures that can be taken to prevent drunk driving fatalities. While laws varied, states received a star for each criteria that they fulfill. See how your state did.
