By now, you have most likely heard how important taking your cholesterol-lowering medication every day is for heart health. Taking your cholesterol drug exactly as prescribed by your doctor will not only lower your cholesterol levels, but will help prevent heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 3 killers, respectively, in the United States today.
In addition to taking your cholesterol-lowering medication and eating a heart-healthy diet, there are other ways you can help your heart. According to the American Heart Association, a heart-healthy lifestyle is your best defense against heart disease and stroke. They recommend nine lifestyle changes to lower your risk:
