Let's Bounce

Swifter and Swifter

General web

clui [github/nathanpeck] is Node toolkit for creating command line interface UI.
MProgress.js [github/lightningc] is a progress bar in the Material Design tradition, but created in CSS and vanilla JS.
Apple’s Swift is up to 1.2, and looking a lot more stable [developer.apple]. There’s also a new beta for Xcode 6.3.
If you like the sound of Swift, but develop for Android or Microsoft stuff, Silver [arstechnica], a compiler that brings the language to Java and .NET, might be right up your alley.
Hematite [github/pistondevelopers] is a Minecraft game written in Rust.
HubPress [github/hubpress] is a web app for building blogs on GitHub.

Let’s Bounce

Design

Here’s a guide to creating some Bouncy Navigation using CSS and jQuery [codyhouse].
Imgur is calling quits on its Pro subscription options [theverge], so now everyone can post as many design screenshots or silly memes as they like.
Affinity [affinity.serif] looks like a pro image editing app worth keeping track of.

Blast Off

SitePoint

On SitePoint today, we had a look at Pagoda Box, a PaaS for PHP, a set of acronyms that’ll excite some of you.
It’s kind of a pain to animate individual words or characters in a section of text, right? You’ve got to mess around with span elements, and who has the time for that. Instead, this guide to Blast.js a read and start making your words come alive.
Ever wondered what IDEs Rubyists choose? That’s a weird coincidence, cos we have this article that covers exactly that.

TV Pried

News/business

Maybe crowdsourcing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be [backchannel], because annoying hackers may destroy your crowd’s work.
Don’t say anything sensitive around Samsung’s TVs, because the devices will probably record it and pass it on to third parties [bbs]. It’s probably best just not to say anything at all around TVs, you’ll only annoy those watching anyway.
Cuba is getting Netflix! [motherboard.vice] But countries like — just a random example here — Australia, which still don’t have the service, shouldn’t feel too bad: a subscription costs about 40% of the average $20 monthly salary in the country. Well, they should feel bad, but for a different, more depressing reason.
Speaking of Netflix, we somehow missed that they were developing a live action Zelda series [blogs.wsj]. Yikes, that’s a really bad idea.

Pump Up the Volume

Off-topic

Simplify [mmth] is a (paid) app for controlling your Mac’s music which sounds (get it?) pretty great.
Git Hunt [githunt] is like Product Hunt, but for GitHub. Pretty useful for keeping track of trending GitHub repos, which could be handy if you’re sending out a daily web dev newsletter for example.

Those are our links for today, we hope they sent you to some cool places. We're going to spend the rest of the day yelling into our TVs. They're not made by Samsung, we just really hate what's on. See you tomorrow!
