This year's conference theme is "Catalyzing Innovations: Smarter Research, Greener Design, Better World." Share your innovations, insights, and strategies at the premier conference for green chemistry and engineering. If you are interested in submitting an abstract, take a look at this year's session themes to find your best fit. The 2015 conference highlights green chemistry and engineering's role in catalyzing innovation. Over three days, a wide array of topics will be covered – with five concurrent sessions every morning and afternoon, plus a large poster session. Abstracts will be accepted until March 13.
Visit the 2015 GC&E program page to review the list of symposium topics for this year's conference, and submit your abstract. Let's come together to share smarter research and greener design, and start building a better world!
Deadline Extension for Green Chemistry Student Awards
The deadline for the Joseph Breen and Kenneth Hancock Memorial Awards has been extended to March 13, 2015! Students are encouraged to apply for those awards, as well as the NSF Travel Scholarship, any of which will help support travel to the GC&E, as well as covering registration and housing costs:

In the second session of our symposium, Dr. Michael Walker presents the factors that govern the aqueous solubility of small molecule drugs. In addition, a number of different strategies for improving solubility through structural modification will be presented. Join us to learn, and comment on, what can stand in the way of optimizing solubility. Did you miss the first session of the 2015 Drug Design and Delivery Symposium? Catch up and discover what you are missing by viewing a public recording on YouTube.

Make sure that you put your best foot forward at the ACS Career Fair, March 22-24, 2015 (at the ACS National Meeting in Denver), by being prepared for the questions that are likely to come your way. Work on your 30-second "elevator pitch." Ask for information you could not find on the employer's website. Show employers what you know, and ask for more. Practice with a fellow professional before attending the Career Fair and ask them to treat you as though they had never met you before. Review the most common and the most difficult interview questions prior to attending the event, and make sure that you have an answer to each one.

If it hadn't been for Project SEED, Julia Gensheimer, a Siemens Competition semifinalist, would have worked as a lifeguard during the summer. Instead, with a stipend from ACS donors, she conducted research on graphene under the guidance of her Project SEED mentor, Dr. Yan Cao, and she presented at the ACS National Meeting in San Francisco. Read her candid interview about her Project SEED experience.

In your lab, or classroom, or wherever you practice your scientific craft, it's likely that you prefer to avoid explosions - but where's the fun in that? In last week's episode, the purveyors of ACS's "Reactions" video series "go Hollywood" and explain the chemistry behind those spectacular big-budget explosions in the movies. We have to imagine that making all those special effects go boom would be fun work if you could get it, and probably really satisfying to our inner 14-year-old. Who knows, maybe there's some showbiz science in your future? (Don't forget your ear protection!)
