Energy Department Highlights Geothermal Progress

Following a strong year of collaboration with industry, academia, and our national laboratories, the Energy Department's Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) today announced the release of its 2014 Annual Report and upcoming 2015 Peer Review, which capture achievements from the Office's robust portfolio.

GTO Releases 2014 Annual Report

The 2014 Annual Report encompasses program achievements and introduces exciting new initiatives that will take the industry into the future. To accelerate the deployment of geothermal technologies, the Office pursues transformative, high-risk/high-reward science and engineering that benefits the industry and the nation. This report spotlights 35 project successes encompassing all our program areas – EGS,HydrothermalLow-Temperature, and Systems Analysis – which are flanked by useful tools and resourcesand links to more information. GTO 2015 Peer Review Sharpens our Focus

Don't miss our 2015 GTO Peer Review, scheduled for May 11-14, 2015 in Westminster, Colorado. This rigorous review of our active project portfolio by independent technical experts opens a dialogue with stakeholders and the public around GTO investments across a wide spectrum of technologies in research, development, demonstration, and analysis. GTO invests over $400 million in 175 geothermal energy projects, and at this year's peer review, awardees will present their progress and findings in peer-reviewed settings as well as a technical poster session. Aside from project reviews, the GTO will also host relevant meetings and topical plenary sessions, where the Energy Department will be eager to receive public input. We encourage you to attend all four days!

GTO is Working to Develop a Strategy for the Future

In an effort to articulate clear GTO investment strategies across different sectors (electric and non-electric) with a cohesive plan, the Office is undertaking a GTO Vision Study jointly with our stakeholder community for completion in 2016. The Office will conduct a credible analysis of potential geothermal growth scenarios for 2020, 2030, and 2050 across multiple market sectors. Upcoming meetings, nationwide, will address resource characterization, supply curve analysis, and cost and performance factors.
See you in May!
