You are subscribed to NCHHSTP Newsroom from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This week, CDC and other major researchers from around the world will be coming together at the annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) to discuss the latest developments in HIV prevention.
Several new studies on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) were discussed at the conference today, including: findings from France on the efficacy of a 3-day PrEP regimen designed to be taken before and after each sexual exposure among gay and bisexual men (the IPERGAY trial), results from a recent UK study of daily PrEP among gay and bisexual men (the PROUD study), and preliminary findings from demonstration projects of PrEP and antiretroviral treatment used in combination to prevent HIV transmission among heterosexual couples in relationships where one partner is HIV-infected and the other is not (the Partners Demonstration Project). For more information on what these findings mean for HIV prevention in the U.S., please see our CDC media statement.
Additional information detailing notable research presented at this year’s conference will be posted on our online newsroomthroughout the week as embargos lift.
