In this day-long presentation, renowned teacher and best-selling author Rick Hanson will explore how mindful attention to positive experiences can cultivate happiness, resilience, love, and inner peace.
Dr. Hanson will summarize the core concepts of his strategies for "taking in the good," then apply these ideas and approaches to important relationships, offering practical resources for mental health professionals and anyone looking to enhance connections (and deal with difficulties) with close friends, family, or colleagues.

Also in March, the GGSC is excited to present a talk on the UC Berkeley campus by Frans de Waal, world-renowned primatologist and a pioneer in the study of the evolutionary basis of empathy and kindness.
When: March 9, 2015
Where: Sibley Auditorium, UC Berkeley Campus
|
Frans de Waal, Ph.D. |
At this talk, Dr. de Waal will review expressions of empathy in animals, which range from a core mechanism of emotional linkage (known as emotional contagion) to higher levels of perspective-taking and targeted helping. He will also discuss the sense of fairness in animals.
Dr. de Waal's research is not only foundational to the GGSC's work but is always highly entertaining and eye-opening.
This event is free and open to the public.

The Science of Happiness | |
The GGSC now offers two options that let you explore the science of happiness and learn how to apply it to your daily life:
Co-taught by the GGSC's Dacher Keltner and Emiliana Simon-Thomas, the course offers research-tested practices to boost your happiness, and features talks by experts like Sonja Lyubomirsky and Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Six or 16 CE credit hours are available for health professionals. More information here.
When: Feb. 27-March 1, 2015
Where: Esalen Institute, California
This weekend workshop at the world-famous Esalen Institute will build on material presented in the online course (but taking the online course isn't a prerequisite to attending the workshop).
Significant time will be devoted to the importance of "fit"-that is, finding the happiness practices that are best suited to your individual lifestyle and personality in order to maximize the benefits that the science can offer you.
CE credit hours available for psychologists, MFTs, and LCSWs.
