"Knowledge, unlike information, is a human characteristic; there can be information no one knows, but there can't be knowledge no one knows."
-- Clay Shirky

Open innovation IS collaborative knowledge. It's the idea that no firm knows it all. It's about sharing with your partners, so everybody wins.

It's just about the most 21st century idea there is. It's also just about the most human idea there is.

People who work for great companies aren't afraid of change.

They're afraid of waking up one day and having it all feel like "just a job".

That's the idea behind this image for a client: keep the dream alive. Don't forget what really matters. Exactly.

There's what you do. And then there's who you are.

Remembering this is terribly important. Maybe the most important thing of all.

This image for Zappos is about that transition, about bringing larger meaning to the work they do.

Because if you don't have that big picture, it makes it hard to get excited about the day to day.

But if you do - if you have that deep sense of purpose - work becomes joy.
When Sir Richard Branson talks about breaking into the airline industry, he doesn't say his team had it all figured out. No, he talks about how they didn't have a clue what they were doing - and that was a good thing.

Of course, they hired experts for all the important technical stuff, making sure their birds stayed in the air. But he sees their relative ignorance as an asset.

In other words, explore new territory, but surround yourself with people you trust, who know the things you don't. That's when the magic happens.
You can work your tail off for decades and still not get anywhere. And the older you get, the scarier this becomes.

And even if we are getting ahead, not every day feels like it. Some days, it feels like one has lived one’s entire existence perched on a precarious ledge.

Like I said, scary.

This is why it's so important to surround ourselves with inspiring people who re-connect us to the fundamentals. Passion, love, drive to succeed, etc...
