Cleaner air is linked to stronger lungs in Southern California children

A large and long-running health study on the effects of air pollution on Southern California children is reporting today its first good news since the mid-1990s, finding significant gains in lung function and respiratory health that parallel the improvement in air quality over the last two decades. The fourth and latest installment of the landmark USC Children's Health Study provides some of the strongest evidence yet that breathing cleaner air during the childhood years that are critical for lung development brings lifetime health benefits.
