ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH

Protect children from accidental poisoning by household substances. Lock up household pesticides and chemicals in a high cabinet out of the reach of children. March 15-21 is National Poison Prevention Week.

Go Green-Scaping. March is when we typically begin to think of springtime, -- lawns, flowers, and being outdoors. Get ideas and useful tips for greenscaping -- environmentally friendly practices to improve the health and appearance of your lawn and garden.

Energy Star Dryers. Shopping for a new dryer? At least 45 models of clothes dryers have now earned the Energy Star label. These dryers are at least 20 percent more efficient than conventional models and are now available at prices comparable to standard dryers. Clothes dryers consume more energy than any other appliance in the home.

  • Stormwater Planning Tool. Do you do community planning? Try EPA's new Climate Adjustment Tool, which helps engineers and planners evaluate the performance of water infrastructure against various climate change projections. Every year billions of gallons of raw sewage, trash, household chemicals, fertilizers, and more flow into our streams, rivers and lakes.

  • Compliance site. We launched a new site about compliance to help users stay informed and share tools. For example, this new site provides easy access to ECHO, an online tool that lets you find compliance information about companies near you, and identify pollution sources or discharges.

Education Innovators Nominations (due Mar 13). EPA is accepting nominations for the 2014-2015 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. This award recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who use innovative approaches to environmental education. Nominations are due March 13.
