Watch the Throne

News/business

No prizes for guessing what the tech world has been buzzing about for the last day. Of course, it was the big news from Apple’s big Spring event, where the company shocked the world with the crazy, insane, revolutionary announcement that it would be dropping the price of an Apple TV to US $69 [arstechnica]. There was also mention of some watch thing and a tiny, nearly portless Macbook [theverge], but we’re pretty sure the Apple TV price drop is what everyone will be talking about for weeks to come. Exhilarating stuff.
Apple really care about this whole watch thing, so much so that, once updated to the latest version of iOS, your iPhone will remind you that it’s time to buy one [arstechnica]. Once you’ve finished listening to that U2 album they plonked on your phone last year, of course.
If you’re a rich person who is thinking about buying a $10,000 Apple Watch, you could do better, according to this article on the Verge [theverge]. Could do better in terms of watches, that is. If you have 10 grand to blow on a watch, it sounds like you’re doing just fine, in general. (Cheers Jude!)
Today in sad news: Gigaom is shutting down due to a lack of funds [thenextweb].

The Room

Off-topic

Unindexed was a social network that only lasted as long as it took for Google to index it [motherboard] — 22 days, as it happens. It’s refreshing to see a product die quickly on purpose.
Roomchat [roomchat] lets you create chatrooms on the fly.
And finally, Facemoji [facemoji] puts emoji on your face so you no longer need to emote on your own.

That's it for us, we'll be spending the rest of the day looking at which Apple Watch we'll buy second-hand next year when the newer ones arrive.
