Designated Glitter

Mind Over Matter

General web

Matter.js [github/liabru] is a 2D rigid body physics engine for the web, created in JavaScript.
And Lib.js [github/juanvello] is a JavaScript canvas animation library, for complex animations.
Libreboard [github/libreboard] is an open source Trello clone written in CSS and JS.
Floobits [floobits] looks like an incredible way to make remote working less awful for developers.
Here’s a fancy WordPress plugin to integrate responsive images into a WP site [wordpress] (thanks Tim!)
AWS now has an automatic recovery option [aws.amazon], which seems like a no-brainer?

Ill Afford

Design

PicSvg [picsvg] will convert any picture into an SVG file.
Also, here’s an interesting post on how digital affordances have evolved over time [medium/user-experience-design-1].

Designated Glitter

SitePoint

On SitePoint, we had an interesting piece on making your users happier by making your site more usable.
Then we took a look at a hot, yet evil, business that’s blown up in the last week:ShipYourEnemiesGlitter. You may have heard of it.
Lastly for this section, here’s a look at accepting Bitcoin payments on a WordPress site.

Space Out

News/business

It looks like Google might throw Elon Musk’s SpaceX a bit of coin to get a “satellite internet” plan off the ground [arstechnica]. Apparently these satellites will help with his eventual goal to bring the internet to Mars. Always with the Mars, this guy.
The Verge reviews the Amazon Echo tubular Siri thing, and comes away kinda unimpressed [theverge]. TLDR: It’s not very good, but it’s the future. So, look forward to a not-very-good future.
Agile people: Maybe consider writing “Jobs Stories”, rather than “User Stories”. Apparently it’s better [robots.thoughtbot].

Google Fuss

Off-topic

Here’s an argument for using a VPN to increase security [macworld]. Possibly preaching to the choir with that one, but there you go.
Finally, here’s an interesting look into what it takes to extract aphorisms from a body of text [tinysubversions]. Live and learn, eh?

Thanks for joining us today, that's everything we enjoyed from the web. If your Amazon Echo is reading this email to you, say hi from us OK? Then ask her to play some rock music [youtube]. See you tomorrow!
