How does your SharePoint perform?

headshot_rubinsteinBy David Rubinstein
People implementing SharePoint concern themselves with business value, and governance, and adoption. But performance seems to be one area that too often is either overlooked, or put off until major problems arise.

Performance, though, can be a key factor in whether your users actually adopt your SharePoint implementation or find alternatives.

This topic came up in a discussion I had with Andreas Grabner, performance advocate at Dynatrace, which late last year was taken out of Compuware by equity partners. Dynatrace has its roots in root-cause analysis tools, which detect where systems are struggling, and is now making a new push... READ MORE »

Microsoft debuts new cloud partner program and Office iOS integrations

By Rob Marvin
Microsoft has announced a new Cloud Storage Partner Program, along with new integrations allowing third-party cloud storage providers to natively integrate into the “Locations” picker in iOS Office apps on iPhone and iPad.

According to an Office blog post, third-party storage integrations for Android and Windows 10 universal apps are on the way. The integration also allows cloud providers to integrate Office Online into their individual applications as part of the new Cloud Storage Partner Program. The program, of which Box, Citrix and Salesforce are already a part, will enable users to open, view and edit documents in the browser using any of the given third-party Web applications... READ MORE »

headshot_linkerIt’s 20 degrees outside The Linker’s Long Island office. There are mounds of gray snow piled high, stained with the exhaust from cars of exhausted commuters. An arctic air mass is moving into position to send temperatures ever lower. All this can only mean one thing: What a day for baseball! Yes, pitchers and catchers report this week to spring training facilities all around Florida and the Southwest – as sure a sign of spring as there is! Now, if David Wright doesn’t hit, does that mean six more weeks of winter? The Linker hopes he doesn’t have to find that out!

K2Despite improvements to its workflow capabilities in 2013, SharePoint remains limited in what you can do in many application scenarios.

This white paper looks at out-of-the-box SharePoint functionality and what can be done with K2's Appit solution for forms, workflows and line-of-business applications.

With SharePoint 2013, the following shortcomings have been highlighted:
• Only data within the site where the workflow lives can be accessed
• Code must be written to bring in data from other line-of-business systems
• Web services written to call into LOB data must handle security
• No real-time access to LOB data

Walking the app model tightrope: An ISV’s perspective

By Brian Prigge
Since the creation of the App Model for SharePoint, which has been extensively covered in SPTechCon’s news section, there have been a few hiccups, a few changes, and a whole lot of learning curve. Even today, many people do not have apps configured on their farm. The reasons for not configuring vary from person to person, but in the end come down to a few major pieces.

First, some believe that the only way to install apps is from the SharePoint Store. While you can install apps from the store, I have seen a number of issues trying to install store apps into...READ MORE »
