Get Fixed in Feb

Woof!  Hi everyone, I’m Chewy and I am a 3 year old Irish Wolfhound.  I was recently facing euthanasia at a pound in NSW.  It was really awful to have a time limit on my head, and a short one at that!  Only 8 days for my owner to come forward and then 7 days after that to be adopted. Can you imagine? I didn't get adopted, but thankfully I was saved from death row in the nick of time and whisked away to Lort Smith’s Adoption Centre. Phew!!
The staff at Lort Smith then got me in tip top shape to help me find my new loving home.  I was groomed, I learnt new manners and I met a lot of new friends, many of which were also saved from death row. The part I didn't like quite so much was being de-sexed! Yuck! But I know first-hand how important de-sexing is.  Actually, it’s the reason why I am out in force today talking to you.
Because today, the 24th of February, is actually World Spay Day!  And the staff at Lort Smith are hoping that you can help.
You see, every year hundreds of thousands of animals are abandoned to shelters or the street, facing an uncertain future and the very real risk of being put down, just like me! There are lots of reasons for this unhappy situation, but de-sexing is one of the ways we can help prevent it.
But there’s one problem.  Just last year alone, Lort Smith’s Adoption Centre de-sexed 672 surrendered animals, including 475 cats, 151 dogs, and 46 exotics including rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs.  Just de-sexing these animals cost Lort Smith $104,173!  Now that would buy me a lot of doggy treats, woof!
But I must forget about my appetite and focus on the problem at hand! You see, Lort Smith do not receive any Government funding so they must rely on generous animal lovers in the community. Is that you?  If it is then it is good news for all of the animals in Lort Smith’s care.  Because to celebrate World Spay Day, Lort Smith are launching their“Get Fixed in Feb” fundraiser!  They are hoping to raise money to help pay for the de-sexing costs in their shelter and provide free de-sexing to some pets of people sleeping rough in the local area.
So, if you would be able to make a donation today, even just a small amount, you would not only be helping animals like me find their forever home, you would be helping the unwanted animal population in Victoria!  A pretty good cause don’t you think?
Well, thanks so much for reading my story.  And thanks to anyone who has supported Lort Smith in the past, because without your help I wouldn't be going to a loving new home tomorrow – oh yes, I almost forgot to mention, I have got a family of my very own!  Woof, I am so happy!  I don’t like to think what would have happened to me if it wasn't for Lort Smith and their supporters.
And, if it is not too much to ask, could you please share my story so that more people can become aware of World Spay Day and the importance of de-sexing.
