News from The Hill Ex-Marine found guilty in 'American Sniper' murder trial By David McCabe Veteran Eddie Ray Routh was found guilty in the shooting deaths of American Sniper author Chris Kyle and a friend on Tuesday. Routh killed Kyle, a former Navy SEAL sniper whose book about his experiences in war was turned into an Oscar-nominated movie released last year. He will receive an automatic life sentence in the death of Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield. His defense team had argued that he was insane and did not know the killings were wrong at the time.
