News from The Hill Homeland Security shutdown averted By Rebecca Shabad A partial government shutdown was narrowly avoided late Friday evening as Congress approved one week of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Lawmakers came perilously close to missing the midnight deadline for funding DHS, with the House voting after 10 p.m. to approve a one-week continuing resolution to keep the department open. The House passed the one-week bill in a 357-60 vote. Earlier in the night, the Senate passed the one-week funding bill in a voice vote, handing House GOP leaders a lifeline. Read more here.
