The FAA's long awaited rules for flying small drones have arrived. Up until today it was illegal to fly drones for commercial purposes unless you had a specific exemption from the FAA for testing. The new rules lay out a framework that would allow any company to fly so long as they abide by some sensible guidlines.

Banks in Russia, Japan, the US, and Europe have fallen victim to a massive, sophisticated malware hack, allowing the perpetrators to steal hundreds of millions of dollars since 2013. According to a Kaspersky Labs report provided to the New York Times, more than 100 banks in 30 nations have been affected by the breach, with upwards of $300 million stolen in the process.

Apple is working on a self-driving car, Reuters reports. An industry insider said Apple is gathering information and parts to make a prototype for a self-driving electric vehicle. Yesterday, a lead from the Wall Street Journal indicated Apple was working on an all-electric vehicle called Project Titan. That report explicitly stated a self-driving car was not part of Apple's plan.

All right, it's possible that Nuren isn't technically the first VR rock opera. But it's highly likely. The (eventually) seven-part "feature-length virtual reality music experience" is composed by Jake Kaufman, who's also behind the chiptunes Shovel Knight soundtrack, and it looks like a weird combination of THX-1138 dystopia, adorable neon-haired robots, and 360-degree virtual reality video, which is currently experiencing a bit of a boom.

The service, reported to launch this summer, will likely integrate technology from Beats Music into its own app. It's likely Lowe will play a role in shaping the service, either by curating music, hosting, or working with musicians for specialty shows.

An LG Electronics executive has been indicted by prosecutors in South Korea on charges of vandalizing high-end Samsung washing machines, The Wall Street Journal reports. Jo Seong-jin, head of LG's home appliances division, is accused of deliberately damaging four Samsung Crystal Blue washing machines at a Berlin trade show in September. Two other LG execs have been indicted on similar charges.

Scientists at the University of Twente in the Netherlands have found a way to see through opaque barriers, Nature reports. This is done by recording wavelengths from visible light, which can pass through solid material like paint or skin. Researchers are now working on methods to reassemble scattered light that has passed through opaque barriers to create a useable image on the other side.
