JavaScript, Java lead the way in RedMonk language rankings

JavaScript is king when it comes to measuring language usage via GitHub and Stack Overflow. The RedMonk Programming Language Rankings for this month have JavaScript, Java, and PHP topping the list. The rankings are based on an analysis that factors in the number of lines of code pertinent to a particular language in GitHub, as well as tags applicable to a language in Stack Overflow.

New H-1B bill will 'help destroy' U.S. tech workforce

New legislation being pushed by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to hike the H-1B visa cap is drawing criticism and warnings that it will lead to an increase in offshoring of tech jobs. IEEE-USA said the legislation, introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Tuesday, will "help destroy" the U.S. tech workforce with guest workers.

BlackBerry denies it talked to Samsung about a buyout

BlackBerry has flatly denied a report that it met with Samsung Electronics to discuss a proposed $7.5 billion buyout by the South Korean powerhouse. The Reuters news service reported on Wednesday that Samsung had offered to buy BlackBerry for between $13.35 and $15.49 per share. Its story cited documents and an unnamed source.
