Library of Congress Summer Teacher Institute
Teachers are invited to learn more about the Library of Congress Summer Teacher Institute for Primary Sources in Science, a week-long professional development opportunity, taking place July 20–24. Participants will explore the benefits of using historical primary sources in the science classroom, particularly around the nature of science, the practices of scientists, and the relationship between science and society. Participants will build skills in teaching effectively with photographs, manuscripts, drawings, maps, and other formats from the Library's collections. The program will include model classroom activities, as well as opportunities to conduct original research, learn from peers, and work side by side with curators, experts, and education specialists. Tuition and materials are provided at no cost. Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from Washington, DC, and any required overnight accommodations.

Deadline Extended: Register by February 4 for the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Competition
The deadline to register teams for the 2015 Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision program—the world's largest K–12 science and technology competition—has been extended! If you haven't registered your team for the ExploraVision competition, it's not too late—register today. The new deadline for submissions is February 4. Visit the ExploraVision website for competition details and helpful resources for teachers, parents, and students. In case you missed it, watch the recent web seminar, How to Avoid Disqualification in ExploraVision, for further information about the competition and tips on how you can prevent ineligibility.
 
In addition, students who enter a project into the ExploraVision program, as well as participating teachers, will also be eligible to apply for the TOMODACHI Toshiba Science & Technology Leadership Academy, an expense-paid, week-long cross-cultural STEM exchange program held in Tokyo where students and teachers from the United States work closely with a team of Japanese counterparts to develop proposed solutions to global issues.

PAEMST 2014–2015 Application for 7–12 Grade Mathematics and Science Teachers Now Open
PAEMST infoThe Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program is pleased to announce that the 2014-2015 application period for 7-12 grade mathematics and science (including computer science) teachers is now open! Please consider nominating a talented teacher or applying yourself by using thePAEMST website today. The nomination deadline is April 1, and the application deadline is May 1.
 
PAEMST is the highest honor the United States government bestows for K–12 mathematics and science teaching, honoring up to 108 teachers each year. Presidential awardees receive a certificate signed by the President, a trip for two to Washington, D.C., to attend a series of recognition events, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). PAEMST's most recent cohort of awardees even had the opportunity tomeet with President Barack Obama.
