Remember that diet can play a role in GERD and ulcer symptoms. Some food and drinks may aggravate your digestive condition. Foods do not make ulcers worse or prevent healing, but they can, in some people, trigger symptoms. However, certain foods can cause problems with GERD. Some foods relax the muscle that works as a valve between the esophagus and stomach. When this muscle relaxes, acid can flow back into the esophagus. Other foods just may be irritating to the lining of the esophagus or stomach.
