The Trouble With Artificial Sweeteners
In theory, artificial sweeteners should be a win-win for people who need to lose weight — you can continue to eat the sweet foods you love without the added calories of sugar. Unfortunately, sticking with these types of sweeteners often leads to weight gain — as evidenced by the large numbers of overweight and obese people who drink diet sodas and eat artificially sweetened foods; furthermore, they can do more harm than good.   Find out why you should remove artificial sweeteners from your life.

Featured Recipe: Breakfast Quinoa
Quinoa is a tasty, filling, versatile, complete protein with a low glycemic index. If you're not familiar with it, you should get familiar with it! I use it as a side dish at dinner, or as pilaf for a main dish, but here's a truly novel idea — breakfast! Instead of oatmeal, I have quinoa with goat milk and a little agave for sweetness. Gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, and delicious.   Get the recipe!

Food for Thought
Persian cucumbers have a much better taste than their thick-skinned American counterparts. They are long and thin and do not need peeling. Try giving these crisp, fresh veggies a try for your next snack or salad!
