SAN DIEGO (Feb. 25, 2015) The amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) returns to homeport at Naval Base San Diego. Makin Island is the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and, with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, returned to homeport following a seven-month deployment to the western Pacific and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility.
