News from The HillSenate approves former Google exec as patent chiefBy Jordain Carney and Mario Trujillo The Senate on Monday approved a former Google executive to lead the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, marking the first time the agency has had a Senate-confirmed leader in more than two years. Michelle Lee, who has been leading the agency for months, was approved by voice vote to lead the agency after being nominated by President Obama in October. She will also serve as the under secretary of Commerce for intellectual property. The Senate also approved Daniel Henry Marti to lead the White House’s intellectual property enforcement coordinator, a position that has been vacant since August 2013. He was approved 92-0.
