The Science of Love (infographic)

Science can't define everything in the universe. Well, to be more precise, our little species can't use science to explain everything in the universe. There's just too much that we still don't know—we're missing too many variables—so a lot of things are still rather perplexing. What came before the Big Bang? How does physics operate at the center of a black hole? What about abiogenesis? These are all things that our science currently can't answer.
That said, there is a lot that science has figured out, and some of the things that it can explain are pretty surprising. Take love, for example. It's something that people have tried to figure out for centuries, and it's something that many people still struggle with. Although science can't explain all of the complex social and cultural interactions that affect attraction and courting rituals, it can explain quite a bit about the biology of love.
For example, there are three key areas of the brain that play a role in attraction. These are the areas that regulate fear/stress, dopamine levels, and  the pituitary gland (which controls many hormones). These regulatory areas work in very specific ways in order to create the feeling that we call "love." At the start of the romance, dopamine levels increase and serotonin levels decrease. Ultimately, serotonin is responsible for controlling certain aspects of your mood which have been linked to "obsessive behaviors" that we associate with attraction.
This infographic by Adam Baumgartner, from DN Graphic, tells you what science has to say about love and how it works on a biological level.
