The DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's annual Tribal Energy Program Review is a gathering that enables tribes to meet and learn from other tribes that are pursuing energy sufficiency through efficiency and/or renewable energy projects, and to share in each other's successes. As energy sufficiency is a priority throughout Indian Country and rural Alaska, this unique forum is open to all tribes, Alaska Native villages, and others with an interest in clean energy project development on tribal lands.Register now and watch for additional details on the Tribal Energy Program website.

Coming Soon: Native Student Internship Program Call for Applications

Save the Date for DOE Summer Internship Program

Sandia National Laboratories will begin accepting applications in March for its 2015 Summer Internship opportunity. Sponsored by DOE's Office of Indian Energy, the 12-week Summer Internship Program is specifically for American Indian, full-time technical undergrads or graduate students. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 for a Bachelor's degree and 3.5 for a Master's degree. In addition, applicants will be required to answer four short essay questions and send a resume or CV and college transcripts. Funding and Technical Assistance Opportunities

DOI Bureau of Indian Affairs Request for Proposals for Tribal Climate Change Adaptation and Planning Projects

Applications Due: April 24, 2015
Eligible entities: Federally recognized tribes
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureau of Indian Affairs is making up to $8 million available to support tribal climate change adaptation and ocean and coastal management planning. Each winning proposal will receive no more than $250,000.
Applicants may request funding for the following:
  • Training and workshops
  • Climate adaptation planning
  • Travel
  • Ocean and coastal management planning.

DOE Office of Indian Energy Announces Round 3 of START Renewable Energy Project Development Assistance

Applications Due: May 1, 2015
DOE's Office of Indian Energy is accepting applications for the third round of the Strategic Technical Assistance Response Team (START) Renewable Energy Project Development Assistance Program to provide tribes with technical assistance to further the development of community- and commercial-scale renewable energy projects.
START will provide tribal project teams and tribal legal/finance specialists with long-term technical assistance focused on helping them reach a late-stage development decision point or milestone to advance a project toward development.

News Highlight

New White House Report Highlights Investments in the Future of Indian Country

On February 27, the White House released its 2014 White House Tribal Nations Conference Progress Report, Investing in the Future of Tribal Nations PDF. The report gives substance to the President's stated commitment to strengthening nation-to-nation relationships with Indian tribes by documenting the progress the Administration has made in Indian Country over the past year.
